E-scooter reminder and seizures

We know that vehicle ASB of all kinds is a concern for our residents, and one aspect of that is the use of e-scooters.

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988, which means they need both a licence and insurance to be used on public roads.

The catch? Insurance for privately owned e-scooters isn't currently available, and as a result, it's currently illegal to ride a privately owned e-scooter on public land.

Over the past week we have seized two e-scooters while on patrol, one from Rackheath and one from Freethorpe.

Officers are often contacted about the use of these items, as not only are they illegal but they're also capable of causing injury, to the rider, pedestrians, and other members of the public too. We encourage anyone with information or concerns to continue raising them to us- all information gained helps us to tackle the issue.
